John James Pappas, 85, of Newark, DE passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 26, 2016.

John was born in Detroit, MI on October 29, 1930 and proudly served our country as a member of the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He moved to Delaware in 1963 and was employed with Rollins Trucking Corporation. In 1978, John began working for Rice's Kirkwood Texaco until 1997 when he joined Goodwill Industries. His final employment began in 2003 with Rice's Car Wash in Elkton until his retirement at the age of 80.

John was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and enjoyed being involved in his church community. He was also an avid fisherman who spent many a day fishing with friends and family at Indian River Inlet.

John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lois (Anders) Pappas; his daughters, Vickie Dobroski and husband, Charles, Sandra Forscht and husband, Joseph, Christine Pappas (deceased husband, Frank Lichtenstein), Cheryl Ellis (deceased husband, Theodore), Viola Tiner and husband, Michael, and Carol Ann Pappas-Braden and husband, Steven; ten grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and his brother, Peter James Pappas.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Friday, January 29 from 5:00-7:00PM. Funeral services will be held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 808 N. Broom Street, Wilmington on Saturday, January 30 at 12:00PM.

Interment will be held privately in Gracelawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 808 N. Broom Street, Wilmington, DE 19806.
