AGE: 83 • Wilmington

John Martin Heller, 83 of Wilmington passed away on November 4, 2016 at Christiana Hospital.

Jack was born in Wilmington, the son of the late Mary (Connolly) and Millard Heller. He graduated from Salesianum School in 1952 and received a Bachelor's Degree in Art from West Chester University. He earned an Associate's Degree from Brandywine College in Law Enforcement. Jack served in the Army during the Korean War and retired after 20 years with the Wilmington Police Department as a Captain. He then worked 23 years as a chief detective for the Department of Justice. He was a member of the FOP and DAP. His brother, James Heller preceded him in death.

Jack's passion was art. He did many drawings and paintings for numerous relatives and even sold many to area residents. When he was in Brandywine Nursing Home he would draw to pass the time.

Jack is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty Jo (Hanson) Heller; his son, Stephen C. Heller; his granddaughters, Alexandra, Brianna and Aribeth and his sister-in-law, Lois White.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday morning at 12 Noon at the MEALEY FUNERAL HOME, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, where friends may call after 11 AM. Burial will be in Birmingham Lafayette Cemetery, West Chester, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Autism Delaware, 928 Old Harmony Road, Newark, DE 19713. Mealeyfuneralhomes.com
