John V. Hamilton

Mr. John V. Hamilton, age 86, of Newark, DE, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2013.

Born in West Grove, PA, on January 2, 1927, Mr. Hamilton was the son of the late George J. Hamilton and Myrtle C. McMillan Hamilton. A 1944 graduate of Newark High School, he was employed for 25 years as a maintenance superintendent with the former Curtis Paper Co. in Newark. He later accepted a position as a building inspector for the University of Delaware, where he retired in 1991 after 10 years of service. Among his professional affiliations, he was a member of the Industrial Management Club of Newark.

A devout Christian throughout his life, Mr. Hamilton was a member and former trustee of the First Presbyterian Church of Newark. In his leisure hours, he greatly enjoyed woodworking and gardening.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Ella Jayne Sheaffer Hamilton; daughters, Gail Hamilton Poole of Grafton, MA, and Lynn Hamilton Stubbs and husband John of Valrico, FL; sisters, Wilma H. VanSant of Elkton, MD, and Margaret VanSant of Easton, MD; grandchildren, James Poole and wife Deborah Slaunwhite, Jefferson Poole, Heather Ybarra, John Stubbs, Katherine Stubbs, and Anthony Stubbs; six great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, George E. Hamilton.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Monday, January 28, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church of Newark, 292 W. Main Street, Newark, DE, 19711, where visitation will begin at 10 am. Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund at the address above.
