John "Jack" Weikart

AGE: 96 • Hockessin

John Weikart passed away peacefully in the presence of his family members on March 6, 2016 at Cokesbury Village, Hockessin, DE.

He was born the son of the late George Schubert and Mignon Mills Weikart of Baltimore, MD. He attended the Calvert School, Baltimore, MD and graduated from the McDonogh School, McDonogh, MD in 1937. He earned a Bachelor Degree of Chemistry (1941) and Degree of Chemical Engineering (1942) from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and an oarsman on JV Crew.

Jack started his professional career June 1, 1942 with Standard Oil Development Co. continuing to work for Esso Research and Engineering Co., Exxon Research and Engineering Co., and Exxon Corporation, until his retirement on December 1, 1982.

Jack was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Margaret G. Schmeisser. He is survived by his three sons, John Martin (Partner - Rosalie Ellicott) Walnutport, PA, Albert Mills (Patricia Anne) Prescott, AZ, and David Fleming (Patti VanSoest) Wenonah, NJ, his three grandchildren Christopher, Jody, and Julia and brother George S. Weikart, Jr. (Margie).

He always enjoyed nurturing his rose bushes, sitting by the lake, and associating with others. Jack developed many long lasting friendships through work and leisure time. He generously contributed to many charities.

There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date to be determined.
