AGE: 62 • Newark

Dr. John Wesley Clayton III, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by his loving family Thursday, April 20, 2017. Dr. Clayton graduated from Tower Hill and went on to graduate as an Echols Scholar from the University of Virginia and cum laude from Jefferson Medical College. He served his residency at Christiana Care. Later Dr. Clayton earned a MBA from Wilmington University where he also served as an adjunct professor with the Graduate Business Degrees Program. He was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Clayton, known to his friends as Wes, was a compassionate doctor who felt it was an honor to serve his patients in his own practice that started in 1992. He finished his exemplary career at Christiana Care. Wes enjoyed traveling the world with his wife but his favorite place to be was Avalon, NJ with his family. He was a long time member of Evangelical Presbyterian Church where he led a home group Bible study for over 10 years.

Wes is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Maggie Clayton; daughters: Sarah Coakley (Matthew), Rachel Nimon (Micah), and Laura Clayton; grandchildren: Elijah, Rebekah, Judah, Matt, Jael, and Ari; and sisters, Barbara Lammiman (Forrest) and Margaret Jenkins (David). He was preceded in death by his father, J. Wesley Clayton Jr. and mother, Margaret Rothfuss.

A visitation will be held Monday, April 24, 2017 from 10 AM - 12 Noon at Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 308 Possum Park Rd., Newark, DE 19711 followed by a service in celebration of Wes's life at 12 Noon. Burial will be private. The family wishes to thank Pastor Jay Harvey, Dr. Nabil Warsal, Dr. Charles Schneider, Delaware Hospice, and the staff of Christiana Hospital 6 B for their support and care of Wes and his family.
