Jonathan Sayers Burton

74 years of age, died on December 13, 2015 at 3:30 am in the inpatient hospice unit of Christiana Hospital, Newark, DE. He was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme IV after brain surgery on May 19, 2015.

Jon was born in Farmington, NM on November 20, 1941. The family lived on the Navajo Indian Reservation near Shiprock, NM where his father worked for Conoco Oil Company. The family moved to Conoco's Todd Field near Ozona, TX when the children were in grade school. They later moved into Ozona and remained there until high school graduation.

Jon attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX. He was an assistant professor at Angelo State University, San Angelo, TX for two years before returning to Texas Tech for his PhD in Operations Research and Applied Math. Upon finishing, Jon joined the staff of Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA where he retired in 2009 as the head of the Decision Sciences Department in the LeBow College of Business.

Jon's passions were reading, live arts & theatre, traveling, photography, and his family. After several international trips with family and friends, he was only interested in travel within the US. He, and three Drexel friends, drove Route 66 from Chicago, IL to Santa Monica, CA before starting a road trip around the perimeter of the lower 48 states in the US.

Survivors include wife, Louise; daughter, Valery Shelt (Greg); granddaughter, Madalyn; older brother; Jim (Marjorie); nephew, James; younger sister, Bama Falkner (Joe); and nieces, Sheri, Susan and Heidi; many more dear nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by parents Arnold Forte and Venus Psyche (Pulliam) Burton.
