Joseph DAY Obituary

Joseph Harlan Day Age 78 of Kennett Square, PA since 1983 and formerly of Guantanamo, Cuba, passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2004 at his home. He was the husband of Elizabeth A. Briggs Day, with whom he shared 40 years of marriage. Born in Wilmington, DE, he was the son of the late Joseph Harlan Day and the late Mabel Jackson Day. Joseph served in the US Navy Sea Bees, Pacific Theater, during World War II and the US Air Force during the Korean War. He was communication director for the United States Department of Defense on the US Naval Base, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba for 18 years, retiring in 1983. Joseph was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Guantanamo, Cuba, the DE Veterans Club, the American Legion of Wilmington, DE, the Swayne, Campbell, Testa VFW Post #5467 of Kennett Square, and the Italian American Club. He was also a fire policeman for 18 years with the Longwood Fire Company. In addition to his wife, he is survived by 1 son, John Day of Lake Worth, FL, 2 daughters, Elizabeth Hagstaad and her husband, Donald of Napa, CA, Heather Durgin and her husband, Craig of Wilmington, DE; 1 brother Jack Day of Wilmington, DE; and a beloved grandson, Christopher Durgin of Wilmington, DE. He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Symonds. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Contributions may be made in his memory to a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements are being handled by the KUZO & GOFUS FUNERAL HOME, Ltd. of Kennett Square, "A Life Celebration Home".
