Joseph Miller Obituary
Joseph Miller

Age 95, of Glen Mills, PA and formerly of Wilmington, DE and Longboat Key, FL passed away Sunday, May 29, 2016.

Mr. Miller was born in Wilmington, DE. He graduated from Wilmington High School and attended the University of Miami in Florida. He enjoyed a successful 40 year career as a realtor in Wilmington before moving to Longboat Key, FL in 1986. While in Wilmington, Mr. Miller served on the boards of several real estate associations as well as the board of Congregation Beth Shalom where he was an active member of the Men's Club.

After moving to Florida, Mr. Miller had more time to devote to his love of tennis. He won numerous doubles tournaments while a member at the Longboat Key Club. Mr. Miller, to the surprise of many, also became an avid fisherman and would often risk injury by fishing from the slick rocks in the inlet as well as from the docks at the marina. He enjoyed sharing the fish he caught with friends and neighbors. Like all fishermen, he also enjoyed showing off his biggest fish which included snook, drum and redfish.

When not fishing or playing tennis, Mr. Miller stayed busy volunteering his time. He was an active member of Temple B'nai Israel and served on their Board of Trustee, the Men's Club Board of Directors and several committees. He was a member of American Legion Post 1, the Jewish War Veterans and a lifetime member of B'nai B'rith. He was honored by the Sarasota-Manatee Jewish Federation with the Golden Giver Award for over 25 years of dedication to their efforts. Mr. Miller also volunteered his time serving on committees of the Suncoast Gerontology Center raising funds for Alzheimer's research.

Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his parents, Karl and Rose Miller; sister, Shirley Solot; and son, Larry K. He is survived by his wife, Doris; son, Andrew K. (Carolyn Anderson) of Wilmington, DE; brother, Fred (Anne) of Glen Mills, PA. He will also be dearly missed by his loving grandchildren, Jarrett Miller of New Jersey and Samantha Miller of New York City.

Funeral services will be private.
