Joseph N. Sardo Obituary
Joseph N. Sardo

AGE: 81 • Middletown

Joseph N. Sardo passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 and was reunited in Heaven with his loving wife of sixty years, Marie A. Sardo.

Mr. Sardo was born in Newark, NJ on June 14, 1935 to the late Angelo and Michalina Sardo (Pecarrara) who migrated to America from Caltanissetta, Sicily. He relocated to Jackson, NJ in the mid-sixties, then Wilmington, DE in 1972, and ultimately resided in Middletown, DE for seven years.

While residing in Jackson, Mr. Sardo was an active member of the local Catholic Church and became involved in the Holy Name Society, donating his time to coordinate various fundraising events. One in particular stands out, which was the annual Parish Carnival in which he orchestrated a week long event that was a huge success. Mr. Sardo joined the Jackson Police Department as a Special Officer, a position he truly loved and proudly served on the force for five years.

Upon relocating to Delaware, Mr. Sardo was employed by Scari's Air Freight as the General Manager and eventually had the opportunity to purchase the company, along with his business partner, in the early eighties, which they did. Mr. Sardo founded Sardo and Sons Warehousing, Inc., in 1984 and his sons, Joseph, Angelo and David joined the business and had the opportunity to work with their father and share his passion. The family worked together and expanded the company for sixteen years. He retired in 2002 after a very rewarding career and the business was passed down to the next generation of the Sardo family and today is providing logistic services throughout the United States.

The family spent many memorable summers together at their beach house in Ocean City, NJ and will always treasure those memories. Dad enjoyed sitting on the beach with Mom watching the children and grandchildren having fun in the sun. Of course the boardwalk and the rides were always the highlight of being down at the shore, especially on the 4th of July.

Mr. Sardo is survived by his four children, Joseph A. Sardo and wife Claudia, Maria Meloni and her husband Douglas, Angelo Sardo and his wife Denise, David Sardo and his wife Cynthia. He was extremely proud of his fourteen grandchildren, Catherine Sardo, Joseph G. Sardo, Teena Sardo, Pamela Sardo, Gina Kaufman and her husband Robert, Michael Meloni and his wife Amanda, Steven Meloni and his wife Tina, Joseph W. Sardo and wife Rachele, Anthony Sardo, Christopher Sardo, Nicole Sardo, Emily Sardo, Julia Sardo, Sarah Sardo and great granddaughter, Angelee. Mr. Sardo is also survived by his sisters, Michalina Petalino, Maria Chrisafulli and Ann Armenti. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Marie A. Sardo, sisters Angelina Biondi, Josephine Zielinski and Vera Volpe.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 14th at 1 pm at St. Anne's Episcopal Church, 15 E. Green St., Middletown, DE 19709. Visitation will be from 12 - 1 pm. Interment will be private.

The family would greatly appreciate donations in lieu of flowers to; Nemours Fund for Children's Health, Shands House. 1600 Rockland Rd., Wilmington, DE 19803. (302) 651-4487. In memory of Joseph N. Sardo to benefit the Behavioral Health Dept., givenow.nemours.org.
