Joseph "Joe" Zecca

AGE: 78 • Newark

Joseph Zecca, age 78, of Newark and Bethany Beach, DE, passed away from Pulmonary Fibrosis on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 surrounded by his loved ones. Joe was born in Wilmington, DE, on October 22, 1937 to Italian immigrant parents, Raymond and Ida Zecca. He married the love of his life, Judy, in 1969 and together they raised 3 children. Lifelong residents of Delaware, Joe and Judy enjoyed the time they spent at their home in Bethany Beach as well as their many travels to 43 out of the 50 states and cruises on the Caribbean. Joe served in the US Army, activated from the DE National Guard, during the Berlin Crisis. He was a truck driver for more than 35 years, beginning his career with Teamsters Local 326 and then transferring to Local 312 before retiring from Consolidated Freightways in 1996. After retirement he enjoyed his time as a bus driver for the Newark Senior Center.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Judy; children: Joseph Jr., Tina Wallace (Leonard) and Karen (Eric Parsons); grandchildren, Katie Wallace, Leonard Wallace III (Jessica) and Joseph Zecca III; great grandchildren, Emily Grace Wallace and Liam Grayson Wallace; brother, Albert Zecca; and sister, Lucy Morris. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 4 brothers: Adam, Raymond Jr., Rocco, and John; sister, Virginia Dallis; great granddaughter, Madison Grace Wallace and loyal pups, Brutus and Babe.

A visitation will be held Monday, December 21, 2015 from 6-8 PM in the Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19702. An additional visitation will be held Tuesday, December 22, 2015 from 10-11 AM at St. Margaret of Scotland Church, 2431 Frazer Rd., Newark, DE 19702 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM. Burial will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St Margaret of Scotland Building Fund. For directions or to send an online condolence visit
