Joyce Joann Idzik Obituary
Joyce Joann Idzik

AGE: 87 • Chadds Ford

Joyce Joann Idzik of Chadds Ford, PA passed away at the age of 87 alongside her three loving children on December 17, 2016. Joyce was born in Oak Park, IL as an only child to the late Amanda and Emil Hoppensteadt. She was a devoted and caring wife to John Joseph Idzik for 61 years until his passing in December of 2013. Joyce is survived by her three children Dr. Cynthia Lynn Idzik-Starr (husband Paul), John Arthur Idzik (wife Carol) and Joyce Leigh Harms (husband Kevin) as well as five grandchildren Jessica Lauren Starr, Bryant James Idzik, Bradley John Idzik, Holly Ann Idzik and Michael Douglas Harms.

Joyce spent the majority of her childhood in Baltimore, MD where she attended high school and sang in the Peabody Chorus. She continued her education at the University of Maryland where she earned her bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Health Science as a member of the class of 1951. While at Maryland she was active in the Kappa Delta sorority and she met the love of her life in John. Joyce and John were married at Calvary Lutheran Church in Baltimore in 1952. As the matriarch of a "football family" Joyce took charge of moving the family often with stops in College Park (MD), Knoxville, Ottawa (Canada), Detroit, New Orleans, Miami, Baltimore, Long Island and Chadds Ford where ultimately she called home for 44 years. Being ever inquisitive, Joyce pursued a variety of interests along her journey including as a member of multiple PTA organizations, the Garden Club of South Florida, Cub Scout den leader of South Florida, Girl Scout leader of Chadds Ford, the Garden Club of Chadds Ford, the Music Club of Chadds Ford, TOPS of Wilmington, the Brandywine River Museum Conservation Group, the elections volunteer staff in Pennsbury Township (PA) and the Alter Guild at Concordia Lutheran Church in Wilmington. She was a longtime patron supporter of Longwood Gardens, a frequent participant in weekly neighborhood prayer groups and she treasured her boxers and attending their dog shows.

Joyce is best known for her strong Christian faith, her true love of family and her genuine compassion and concern for people from all walks of life. She selflessly sacrificed her time and energy for the benefit of others and as a result she impacted the lives of many. God graced us with Joyce's presence here on Earth and while she will be lovingly remembered and sorely missed, those who knew her can take comfort in the fact that through her Lord and Savior she has gained everlasting life.
