June Goldey Barto

AGE: 86 • Milford

June G. Barto passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2015. She was 86. She was the daughter of the late Christopher M. and Minnie V. Goldey and was born in West Grove, Pennsylvania on June 24, 1929. She was raised in nearby Oxford and graduated from Oxford High School in 1947. June attended Goldey College and worked very briefly at the DuPont Experimental Station and then at the law offices of H. Albert Young until her marriage to Richard "Dick" Barto after which she moved to Milford and became an official "downstater". There June did secretarial work in the Radiology Department until the birth of her first child, Michael. Following the birth of her other children, she accepted the position as secretary to Milford City Council, which she held for 38 years. During this time she was also employed as a teacher's assistant in the Milford School District. She was a longtime advocate to meet the needs for adequate housing for people with low incomes and a founding member of the Milford Housing Development Corporation where she became the first recipient of the annual Frank Lucia Award. June was also an active member of the Avenue United Methodist Church in Milford. Another of her great interests was her large circle of friends who rendered her support so many times and she always enjoyed all the times they shared together. In addition to her parents, June was preceded in death by her husband, Richard "Dick" Barto, and her oldest child, Michael, in 2009.

She is survived by two daughters, Michele Winn and her husband Jack, and Melissa Spencer and her husband Art, all of Newark; a son, Christopher Barto of Dallas, TX; and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Barto of Parsonsburg, MD. She is also survived and blessed with twelve grandchildren; Jonathan Barto, Jason Barto, Adrienne Deakins, Kathryn Saltz, Melody Cline, Claire Winn, Rachael Winn, Mackenzie Winn, Savannah Barto, Serf Barto, Skyler Barto and Somers Barto, and twelve great grandchildren with another to be born this Christmas.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 23, 2015 at the Avenue United Methodist Church, 20 N. Church St, Milford, where friends may call after 9:30 a.m.

Burial will follow the services in the Milford Community Cemetery on North Walnut Street. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be made to Avenue United Methodist Church, 20 N. Church St, Milford, DE, 19963, or to the Milford Public Library, 11 S.E.
