Karen Elizabeth Kriss Obituary
Karen Elizabeth Kriss

Karen Elizabeth (nee Marteski) Kriss died at home in Wilmington, DE, on Wednesday morning, around 4 a.m. Having courageously battled lung cancer for almost seven years, cancer ?nally got the best of her, and she succumbed to its rapid spread. Surrounded by her sons and husband, Karen slipped off into another dimension early in the morning of July 5th, 2017, free of pain at last. Born June 5, 1948, to Alyce (Ellington) and Frank Marteski in Penns Grove, NJ, Karen attended and graduated Penns Grove H.S. Upon graduation, she worked at Hercules Inc., where she met her future husband, Andrew. After raising two boys as a stay at home mom, Karen worked at the former Strawbridge & Clothier store, WSFS and before retirement, at DEXSTA. She enjoyed being around family functions, and people in general, especially the many friends she made at the Elks, Eagles, and Moose service organizations, and was able to meet and play golf with many friends at the old Rock Manor golf course. Karen is survived by her husband, Andy, sons Marc (Jessica), Kevin (Courtnie), four precious and handsome grandsons, Andrew (AJ), Brenden, Evan and Davis, sisters, Francine Marteski (Tom) and Gayle DellOro, sister-in-law Barbara Ruane (Mike), brother-in-law Frank Kriss and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Per Karen's wishes, she will be cremated and her ashes scattered upon the sand, ocean and wind at her favorite beach in NJ. Services will be private, but a gathering of friends and family will occur at a later date (TBA). The family would like to thank Drs. Suppiah and Khatri, their staff and the dedicated triage team at the Regional Hematology & Oncology-Helen F. Graham Cancer Center, in Newark. In addition, many thanks to the entire staff at Compassionate Care Hospice for the rapid response, care and consideration that Karen and her family received on a moment's notice. Special thanks to Dr. Dan for his last minute involvement in making Karen's transition more comfortable. In lieu of ?owers, Karen's family would like contributions be made In Karen's name to two great organizations: Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute, 4701 Ogletown/Stanton Rd., Newark, DE 19713 and Compassionate Care Hospice Foundation, 248 E. Chestnut Hill Rd., Suite 4, Newark, DE 19713.
