Kathy Carilli Obituary
Kathy Carilli

AGE: 53 • New Castle

Passed away on Monday, September 21, 2015 after a long battle with cancer.

Kathy is survived by her parents, Ernest and Joan Carilli of Wilmington, siblings, Dave Carilli, of New Castle, James Carilli of Wilmington, E. John Carilli of Wilmington and Patti O'Connor (John) of Wilmington. She is also survived by her nieces and nephew, Kelli, Patrick, and Sarah O'Connor of Wilmington.

Kathy graduated from DelCastle High school in 1979 and immediately began her career at DuPont, retiring in 2014. She played sports for many years, including softball, flag football, basketball and golf. She excelled in softball, receiving the Player of the Year Award in the Women's Industrial League in 1995. She was awarded the Recreational Athlete Award in 2007.

In her spare time she enjoyed eating crabs with her family, tailgating University of Delaware football games, watching Ravens football, and traveling with her friends. Kathy was famous for bringing Jello-Shots and Drunkin' Gummies to every party. She always made friends wherever she went and she lit up the room with her infectious cheer and laughter.

After her retirement, she volunteered at the Helen Graham Cancer Center, serving as a greeter. She never let her illness get in the way of doing anything she wanted.

Kathy would like to thank the doctors at Helen Graham Center, especially Dr. Timothy Wozniak, Dr. Ramya Varadarajan, Dr. Christopher Koprowski and Dr. Diana Dickson-Witmer, who provided her with years of excellent care.

Passing a week short of her 54th birthday, she without-a-doubt made an imprint on the hearts of everyone she met. Gone but never forgotten, her legacy will forever live on. For years, throughout her struggle, Kathy courageously lived by one of her favorite phrases, "fight like a girl."

Friends and family are invited to visitation on Sunday, September 27th between 5 and 7 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday morning at 10:30 AM at St. Matthew's Church, 901 E. Newport Pike, Woodcrest. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the Helen Graham Center, 4701 Ogletown Stanton Road, Newark, DE 19713 or Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, 111 W. 11th St. #3, Wilmington, DE 19801. (302) 652-5913
