Kenneth DeLong

AGE: 75 • Wilmington

Kenneth DeLong, 75 of Wilmington, DE, peacefully passed away on Friday, April 28, 2017 after a long illness.

Ken was born in Wilmington on August 27, 1941, son of the late Francis and Dorothy (Beebe) DeLong. A graduate of William Penn High School, he served our country in the United States Army, having been stationed in Germany. Ken was a proficient "jack of all trades" and operated his own contracting company, Ken Do Construction, for several years. He was a devout Catholic and a faithful member of St. Matthew Church, where he served on Parish Council.

Ken truly loved being in the company of his immediate family, and loved his extended Giuliani family. He was a proud, devoted grandfather. Ken had a love for animals and was an outdoors enthusiast who enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating. He enjoyed traveling, more specifically driving, and took great pleasure in road trips with beautiful scenery.

Ken will be dearly missed by his wife of 52 years, Rosemarie (Giuliani) DeLong; his children, Stacey Mattia (husband, Donald Jr.), Benjamin DeLong (Amy Gustafson); his beloved grandchildren, Genesia and Dominic Mattia, and Chloe Gustafson. He is also survived by his sister, Bettyann Sasse; his cousins, who were more like his siblings, Cherie Adams (late husband, Topper) and Chuck DeLong. In addition, Ken leaves his loving four-legged companions, Buddy and Molly (deceased, Emme).

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Thursday, May 4 from 5:00-7:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Matthew Church, 901 E. Newport Pike, Woodcrest on Friday, May 5 at 10:30AM. Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Ken to the church that he loved, St. Matthew, 1013 E. Newport Pike, Wilm., DE 19804.
