Lais M. O'Reilly Obituary
Lais M. O'Reilly

AGE: 68 • Wilmington

Lais Moura O'Reilly, 68 of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 16, 2016, with her loving husband and two daughters at her side.

Lais was born in Guarabira, Paraiba in northeastern Brazil, and was the daughter of the late Antonio Oliveira Moura and Maria Consuelo Toscano Moura. In 1966, she met Charles O'Reilly of Philadelphia, PA, who was serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in Brazil. They were married on November 10, 1968, and she moved to the United States with Charles, where they settled in Wilmington, DE.

Along with raising two daughters, Lais began working in fashion retail. She later took fashion merchandising and management classes at Brandywine College, and worked as assistant manager and manager of various boutiques. She began a new career path as a child caretaker in 1988, and worked for a number of years with some wonderful children, including two of her own grandchildren. She then continued her love of retail by "helping out" at Annie Prue in Glen Mills, PA, for several years before retiring.

Lais loved to travel and made many trips back to her native Brazil to spend time with her family. She gardened, was a skilled shopper, and enjoyed working out. She was a longtime member of Kirkwood Fitness, the YMCA of Delaware, and most recently, Ace Strength Company, where she and her husband challenged each other with kettlebell workouts. Despite her diminutive size, she was a capable volleyball player and excelled at table tennis. Her biggest passion, though, was spending time with her grandchildren, which she did as much as possible.

Lais is survived by her husband Charles; her daughters, Alessandra Lais Bellwoar (Michael); and Geisa Lais Corbitt (Keith); her grandchildren, Caralina Lais, Henry Michael, Livia Lais, and Maria Celme; her sisters, Hebe, Celme, and Maria Helena; and her brothers, Antonio Flavio, Paulo Germano, Luiz Eduardo, and Hermano Jose. In addition to her parents, Lais was preceded in death by her sister, Maria Helida (Zora).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am on Saturday, August 20, 2016, at St. Joseph's on the Brandywine Church, 10 Old Church Road, Wilmington, DE 19807, where family and friends may visit beginning at 9:00am. Interment will take place in the adjoining cemetery following the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Lais's memory to St. Joseph's on the Brandywine Church at the address listed above.
