Lech S. (Les) Grabowski Obituary
Lech S. (Les) Grabowski

AGE: 85 • Wilmington

Age 85, of Wilmington, DE, was called home by the angels to his final resting place and passed away peacefully on November 20, 2015 after a very courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease.

Lech was preceded in death by his daughter, Leslie Ann Grabowski (his sweet guardian angel who died at birth in 1955), parents Czeslawa and Roman Grabowski, brother Zbigniew (Ray) Grabowski, brother-in-law Eugene (Gene) Matlusky. Lech is survived by his "heart's twin", his devoted wife of 60 years, Elizabeth (Olenderski) Grabowski; beloved children, Richard and Kay Grabowski, Diane Smith, Susan and Wayne Godwin; grandchildren, Matthew and Jaclyn Grabowski, Ryan and Noriko Grabowski, Leslie Ann Godwin; great-grandchildren, Kate, Jack, Ian Grabowski, and Nathan Godwin; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Carole Grabowski and sister Christine Matlusky.

Lech was born September of 1930 in Lodz, Poland. In 1949 his family emigrated from Bremen, Germany to the United States via the USNS General R.M. Blatchford. After arriving in the United States, Lech served in the US Army and is a Korean War veteran. After his honorable discharge from the service, Lech worked in the plumbing and heating field, retiring from DuPont in 1993.

Lech was a hard worker throughout his lifetime. After retiring, he enjoyed spending time with his "buddies" in the afternoon coffee club, especially Gene Shields and Paul Collins. He enjoyed bowling, traveling, and also took great pleasure in eating Polish food made by his dear wife Betty. Lech loved his family and always had precious time to spend with them. This time will forever be cherished.

Lech will be greatly missed and remembered for his love of life and the joy that he brought to others with his light-hearted spirit. His family will always cherish the way his face lit up with a huge smile and the twinkle in his eyes whenever he saw them. He always expressed his love.

The family would like to extend a very special heartfelt thank-you to Elaine Hyland and all family members and friends that comforted him during his illness.

Idz z Bogiem, Spoczywaj w Pokoju
