Upon graduation, he moved to Delaware and enlisted in the Army during the Korean War. On May 10, 1958, he married Dolores Delphine Cheklinski of Nanticoke, PA. Leon was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Dolores in March, 2013, his parents, Alexander and Beatrice (Grybosh) Wasno, and his brothers John, Joseph, and Paul.

Leon is survived by his sister, Marion Kruba (Gerald) of Duncannon, PA. His sons Greg (Denise) and Gary. He was "Dziadzi" to grandchildren Matthew of Charlotte, NC, Zachary, and Kaitlyn Wasno. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Leon was affectionately called "Mr. Waz" by his sons closest friends.

Leon was an active member of Corpus Christi R.C. Church for over 50 years, and was involved in many committees and church councils. He was also an honorary life member of Knights of Columbus (55 years). He enjoyed gardening, cooking, playing the daily lottery, and listening to talk radio. He was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies. In recent years, he often watched the Fox News Network and participated in lively debates with visitors to his home.

The family is eternally grateful to the staff at Christiana Hospital in the ACE unit and Seasons Hospice. Around the clock, each member in District 3 went above and beyond to make him as comfortable as possible as well as extending support to his family.
