AGE: 85 • Newark

Louis P. LeBourdais, age 85, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 19, 2016.

Born in Lowell, MA on November 2, 1930, Lou was a son of the late Louis A. and Emma Marie (Jubinville) LeBourdais. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Lou made his career as a block operator with the Pennsylvania and Penn Central Railroads and Amtrak, retiring after 36 years. While with the railroad system, he worked part time for 17 years at the Whitman Exxon service station on Elkton Road.

Strong in his faith, he was a longtime member of the Message of Hope Assembly of God in Bear. He was an active member of Lt. J. Allison O'Daniel VFW Post #475 in Newark. In his leisure time, Lou enjoyed reading books of all kinds. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be very dearly missed.

Lou is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Hazel I. (Morgan) LeBourdais; daughters, Shirley Strecker of Newark, DE and Sandra Shoun (Gordon) of Ellendale, DE; 6 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday morning, January 28, 2016, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am. Interment will follow in Newark Methodist Cemetery, New Street, Newark, DE. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Message of Hope Assembly of God, 926 Howell School Rd., Bear, DE 19701.
