Louise Riddle Hanson

AGE: 97 •

Louise Riddle Hanson, 97, passed away peacefully August 31, 2015 at the Methodist Manor House where she has resided for the past ten years. Born in Punxsutawny, PA on June 9, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Don and Mae Means. She graduated from Vandergrift High School and completed her nursing education at Phillipsburg State Hospital, Phillipsburg, PA. After completing her nursing training, she married William J. Riddle in 1941. She moved to Seaford in 1947 and in 1953, joined the staff of Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. She held various positions in nursing management including Director of Nursing. After 27 years of service, she retired in 1983. She delivered hundreds of children in the maternity department as an OB nurse and was most proud of creating the Pastoral Care program at the hospital. She was active in the Nanticoke Senior Center and past president of Soroptimist International of Seaford. She was a member of Wesley Methodist Church and Nanticoke hospital Auxiliary, and volunteered at the Blood Bank of Delaware.

Her husband of 33 years, William J. Riddle, passed away in 1974 and her second husband, Ralph Hanson, passed away in 2003. She is survived by daughters Kathleen Jones, husband Vincent, Geraldine Wiberg, and son William "Jack" Riddle, wife, Susan and step-son, Kevin Hanson, wife, Betty, grandchildren: Eric Frey, wife, Nancy, Gregory Frey, wife, Rachael, Kirsten Bishop, husband, Phillip, Stefanie and Laura Riddle, Corey and Christopher Hanson and ten great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Cross Road Community Church, 20684 State Forest Road, Georgetown, DE 19947 , Friday September 4, 2015 from 10:00am-12:00. Services will be from 12-1pm, followed by lunch at the same site. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to her favorite charity, Nanticoke Health Services, 801 Middleford Rd, Seaford DE 19973. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at the Methodist Manor House and Vitas Hospice for easing the transition.
