Macel A. Negrepont Obituary
Macel A. Negrepont

AGE: 91 • Wilmington, DE - Richwood, WV

Macel A. Negrepont, age 91, of Wilmington, DE and formerly of Richwood, WV passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2015

Macy was born in Richwood, WV, daughter of the late Romey and Virgie Tharp Hanna. She lived through the Great Depression, some days eating only bread and pickle juice for food. She was very proud of her heritage as a West Virginia Hillbilly.

Macy left West Virginia after graduating High School in 1942 and went to work in a Baltimore, MD bomber factory during the war. She later went to Chicago and studied to become a court reporter. After working as a court reporter at Eglin Air Base in Pensacola, FL, she moved to England and later Germany working as a court reporter for the American Armed Forces. After marrying John Negrepont in Switzerland, she had two children, Alexander and Diane, and then moved to Long Island, NY. After her children entered primary school, she attended the University of Delaware and earned her Bachelor's and Masters degrees in Education. She eventually taught full time at various community colleges in the Philadelphia area.

Macy, as she is known to her friends and family, loved her Church, Concord Presbyterian Church. Her husband often joked that when the lights turned on at the Church, Macy was there. She was active in the Church since 1967 and up until the day of her passing, she worked to advertise Church events to the community. For a 91 year-old, she could work her way around a computer better than most people. To her friends and especially her family, she was the ultimate optimist. Regardless of her health deteriorating, she always put on a smile and went to work for her beloved Church.

Macy is pre-deceased by her son, Alexander D. Negrepont who passed in 1984. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, John Negrepont, her daughter Diane Negrepont Lee and her husband Robert, of Hockessin, DE, her sister Geraldine Higginbotham of Columbia, SC., and four grandchildren; Adriene Eiffes of Landenberg, PA, Alex and Raymond Lee of Hockessin DE, and Matthew Negrepont of Wilmington, DE.

A funeral service will be held at CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803 at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2015. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Chester Bethel Cemetery, Wilmington, DE.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Macy's name may be made to the Concord Presbyterian Church, 1800 Fairfax Boulevard, Wilmington, DE 19803.
