Margaret C. Hill Obituary
Margaret C. Hill

Wilmington - Margaret C. Hill, age 64, died peacefully at her home in Wilmington, Delaware on February 23, 2018, with her children at her side. She had fought a courageous battle with multiple myeloma.

She is survived by her children James (wife Megan) Davolos of New York, NY and Alexandra (husband Francisco) Espinel, M.D. of Washington, DC, her mother Cornelia Hill of Kennett Square, PA, her siblings Jennifer Gunn, M.D. of Ithaca, NY and David (wife Sarah) Hill of Lancaster, NH, and her granddaughter Louise Margaret Espinel. Her husband Eugene Davolos predeceased her in 1997. She was also predeceased by her brother William Hill in 1980, and by her father Carman Hill in 2017.

Margaret was born in Peterborough, New Hampshire on March 4, 1953. She grew up in Ithaca, New York and graduated from Ithaca High School in 1971, and worked at the Cornell University Hotel School while still a student. She graduated from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York in 1975. She was active in the hospitality industry of southern New Jersey for 45 years, owning and managing hotels and restaurants with her late husband, most recently the Admiral Motel in Wildwood Crest, NJ.

She purchased her residence in Westover Hills, Delaware in 2006, and became active in the community, while continuing to manage her businesses in New Jersey during the summers. She greatly enjoyed walking through Winterthur gardens, and served as a part-time tour guide at the Nemours Estate during the offseason. Regardless of her location, she was able to embrace her passions for nature, gardening, travel, family and community throughout her life.

Margaret cherished the years that she spent with her late husband, remaining always devoted to him, and was immensely proud of their twin children. She was ubiquitously beloved by her family, in addition to her many friends. She was always the first to respond whenever family or friends were in need, and was a constant source of support and encouragement to all. She was a capable and effective manager in her businesses, and was also forgiving, compassionate and loving as an individual. She maintained her great sense of humor and positive outlook on life, even during her final illness. She left a profoundly positive impact on all of the people she met.

Visitation will be held at 11am, followed by a memorial service at 12pm for Margaret on Saturday, March 10th at Silverside Church, 2800 Silverside Rd, Wilmington, DE. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Margaret C. Hill's name to the New Castle County's Cancer Support Community Delaware online at: www.cancersupportdelaware.org or mailed to 4810 Lancaster Pike, Wilmington, DE 19807.
