Margaret M. "Peg" Eriksen Obituary
Margaret M. Eriksen "Peg"

AGE: 85 • Wilmington, DE

Margaret M. Eriksen of Wilmington, DE., passed away peacefully early Friday morning, September, 11, 2015.

Born in Wilmington to Gus and Mary Dauphin and known to all as "Peg", she attended St. Thomas' grade school and then Wilmington High School. She then earned her R.N. degree at the Delaware Hospital Nursing School. Following her graduation, she worked at the hospital which is where she met her husband of 56 years, Dr. George N. Eriksen Jr. who died in 2008.

Peg was a devoted wife and mother of eight children. Her life revolved around her family, her home, and her hobbies. She had a green thumb and always had a fabulous garden which fueled her passion for flower arranging. She was very artistic and made beautiful flower arrangements and wreaths for many years at the Wilmington Flower Market and at St. Mary Magdalen Church where she was a parishioner since the early 1950s. She enjoyed helping with the decorations at the Delaware Children's Theater with her dear friends Mary Pat Reynolds and Marie Swajeski for many years. If there was an event; a wedding, or a dinner party, a christening, or a funeral...Peg did the flowers. She belonged to several bridge clubs and enjoyed the company of those friends and neighbors for many years.

She was an accomplished cook and hostess, but she was known mostly for her warm smile and gentle manner. She was always pleasant to be around and made all feel warm and welcomed. She was happiest when her friends and family were gathered around her. She lived at home until just recently and displayed her sharp mind, quick wit and good humor until her final day.

Peg is preceded in death by her husband, George, daughter Mary Ann Hinkson, and brother Jack Dauphin. She is survived by seven children and their spouses, seventeen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren all of whom she adored and loved unconditionally and all of whom will miss her dearly!

Family members include George (Lief) N. Eriksen III (Marguerite Gerum), Amandine; Peter Eriksen, Ev, ( Creedin, Tripp and Silas) Jorgen, and Spencer; Chris Eriksen (Mary Catherine Murphy) Eamon, Cass and Lars of Colorado; Rick Hinkson, Dana Hinkson Moore ( Maggie, Gus and Andrew), John (Mike Zenorini), Gus Eriksen, Paul and George; Liz Eriksen (Dan Martelli), Guido C and Sean; Knute Eriksen (Laurie), Kyle and Kevin; Margaret Toy (Steve), Taylor and Jessica and her sister-in-law Dolores Dauphin and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to all of those who helped to make Peg's final days so comfortable. Her good friends and companions, Susan Campbell and Lorena "Laurie" Henderson always brightened her days. She looked forward to their visits and she loved them like family. We'd also thank her physician Dr. Donald Hayes, the ACE Unit Wilmington Hospital, 5 North, and the staff at Forwood Manor and Compassionate Care Hospice who were all so kind to our mother.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph's on the Brandywine Church, 10 Old Church Rd, Wilmington, DE 19807. Family and friends are invited to visit with the family beginning at 9:00 AM at the church. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider donations to The , 100 W.10th Street, Suite 209, Wilmington, DE 19801 or Delaware Children's Theatre , 1014 Delaware Avenue, Wilmington, DE 19806.
