Margueritte "Peggy" Elise Ward Rawheiser

Wilmington - Age 86, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 18, 2020.

Peggy was born in New York City on July 30, 1934 to James Abner Ward and Edna Johnson Ward. She grew up in Rose Hill, NC and graduated with a degree in business from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1956. Peggy moved to Wilmington in 1956 to teach accounting at Goldey-Beacom College. After raising her family, Peggy spent more than 40 years working and volunteering at the First Unitarian Church of Wilmington.

Preceded in death by her brother, James Ward (Helen); Peggy is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ralph Rawheiser; five children, David Rawheiser (Sue), Debbie Robertson (William), Rob Rawheiser (Laurie), Bill Rawheiser (Cecilia), and Steve Rawheiser (April); seven grandchildren, Justin Rawheiser, Rebecca Rawheiser, Natalie Little (Tom), Matt Robertson, Paige Rawheiser, Eva Rawheiser, and Zoe Rawheiser; one great-grandson, Mason Little; brother, Richard Ward (Lynne); and sister, Nancy Dunn.

Peggy loved family. She spent a lot of her retirement researching family trees - hers and others. In addition to her ancestry research, she authored a book "A History of Universalism in North Carolina", was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Historical Society, wrote for the Universalist Herald, and worked on stamp collection that she had spent 60 years putting together. Peggy also spent her time volunteering with the PTA, NCC Friends of the Libraries Advisory Board, Heatherbrooke Civic Association, and USPS Postal Customer Council Advisory Committee.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Foulk Manor North, My-Kyra from Right at Home, Seasons Hospice, and Home Instead for taking such good care of her in her final years.

Due to COVID, a virtual service will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Unitarian Church of Wilmington, 730 Halstead Road, Wilmington, DE 19803.

I met Peggy through her love of genealogy. She introduced me to my family members I didn't know. She was a wonderful friend and I am thankful I got to know her.

So sorry to learn of Peggy's passing. She and I are two birthright Universalists - there aren't many around. I was delighted to have a copy of her book on Universalism in North Carolina, which mentioned my grandfather in numerous chapters. He was a Universalist minister. The last I saw and talked with Peggy was when I got several more copies of her book to share with other family members. We had a special bond, and I was happy to know her and share Universalist tales over the past 30 years. My deepest sympathy to her family.

I was fortunate to meet Peggy through her work with Universalist Convocations. I will treasure the memories of our last visit at Murray Grove. She was a good woman who lived her faith in quiet ways. She made a difference in the world. My sympathy to all
Her family.
