Maria Cajnar Obituary
Maria Cajnar

AGE: 92 • Hockessin

Maria Cajnar died peacefully on November 5, 2015 at her home.

Central to Maria's life were her family and Catholic Faith. (She was a founding parishioner to St. Mary of Hockessin.) She was born in Austria, often relating stories of her family, friends, upbringing, traditions and she never lost the love of her Austrian mountains surrounding Lake Wolfgangsee. She had many interests including history, reading, gardening and nature. She was an excellent cook and a talented seamstress, who sewed elegant clothes. She was employed by Sanford School for more than 30 years making curtains, cheerleading outfits and reupholstering furniture. But most of all she was a dedicated Christian, a loving wife and mother who made every holiday and birthday a spectacular event.

The family wishes to thank Sanford School for the pleasure of working and living, for more than 60 years, in Orchard Cottage, overlooking the school's chapel. Special recognition goes to the now deceased school's founder, Ellen Q. Sawin, and her family for making Maria and her husband comfortable in their new country. We wish to express special appreciation to Jackie Pitts, Mary Reder and James, Julie and Michael Krywko for their loving Support.

Maria will be deeply missed by her daughters and thier husbands Martina and Albert Crompton of Elkton, MD and Annie and Larry Lester of St. Georges, DE; grandsons, Hans Crompton, Alexander and Michael Lester; step- grandsons, Walt and Jeff Crompton and great step- granddaughters, Hannah and Ruby Crompton. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Yanko; her son, Hans Thomas; her infant daughter, Marianna and her brother Aegidius.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, November 11, from 6-8pm at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Homes, 3710 Kirkwood Hwy (at Duncan RD), Wilmington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am, St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin on Thursday, November 12. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Maria's memory to Sanford School, 6900 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707( for the Renovation of Geipel Gym, which Maria's husband helped to build in 1950) or to Delaware Hospice, 16 Polly Drummond Center, 2nd Floor, Newark, DE 19711, (for the kind support of their caretakers).
