Marie E. Taylor, 84, of Newark passed away suddenly at her home on Tuesday, November 22, 2016.

Marie was born in Wilmington, the daughter of the late Marie (Watson) and James J. Dougherty. She was a 1950 graduate of Wilmington High School and worked for 15 years for Rollins Cable Vision, retiring in 1985. Marie was a member of Holy Family Church, volunteered at the Newark Senior Center and was active in the Creekside Condo Association. She also loved going to the beach. In addition to her parents, Marie was predeceased by her husband, Thomas S. Taylor in 2001 and her siblings, Dorothy, James, Jr. and Paul Dougherty.

Marie is survived by her daughters, Bernadette Taylor of Wilmington and Geraldine Jacko and her husband, Adam of Sugarland, TX; her son, Thomas S. Taylor, Jr. and his wife, Eileen of Newark; her grandchildren, Taylor and Heidi Jacko and Allyson and Molly Taylor; her sisters and their husbands, Sr. Mary Joseph Dougherty, OSB of Ridgely, MD, Patricia and Louis Valiente and Nancy and Carl Snyder, all of Wilmington; her brothers, Thomas Dougherty of Browndeer, WI and Gerald Dougherty and his wife, Eileen of Wilmington and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 2, 2016 at Holy Family Church, Chestnut Hill Road and Gender Drive at 11:30 AM, where friends may call after 10:30 AM. Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Benedictine Sisters of Ridgley Maryland, 14259 Benedictine Lane, Ridgley, MD 21660. Mealey funeralhomes.com
