Obituary Condolences

Marjorie E. Grotz

AGE: 98 • Wilmington

Marjorie was born on July 12, 1917 in Wilmington, Delaware as the youngest of five children of George and Margaret Grotz. Marjorie passed into eternal rest on January 6, 2016 while under the loving care of the dedicated caregivers at Heartland Hospice in Wilmington. Marjorie is survived by her nephews George Grotz (Monika) of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina and their three children Erik, Elizabeth and Christopher and by Herbert Jervis (Mary) of Havana, Florida. Marjorie was pre-deceased by her sister Dorothy and brothers Edward, Stoll and George.

Marjorie, who was well known for her dry wit and infectious humor, devoted her life to the service of others. After receiving her degree as a registered nurse from the Jefferson School of Nursing in 1944, Marjorie was appointed an Ensign in the United States Navy and as a member of The Greatest Generation served honorably on board the hospital ship USS Consolation in World War II and again in the Korean Conflict, later transferring to the Naval Reserve at the rank of Lieutenant Commander. After her successful naval service Marjorie continued her dedication to others by applying her nursing skills to the young patients at the Alfred I DuPont Hospital for Children. Marjorie was a long time member of Presbyterian Church of the Covenant.

In addition to the excellent care provided by Heartland Hospice, Marjorie's family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for the professional, longtime care provided to her by the administrative and nursing staff and for the friendship of her many fellow residents at Luther Towers II where Marjorie lived since 1996. We know that a void has been created by her passing but that the memories of her personality and her effect on others will remain forever.

A visitation and service of remembrance will be held from 5PM to 7PM at the Beeson Chapel, 412 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington DE 19809 on Tuesday, January 12th. Burial service will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Marjorie's memory may be made to Heartland Hospice, 5661 Ocheltree Lane, Wilmington, Delaware, 19808.
