Martha J. Czerwin Obituary
Martha J. Czerwin

AGE: 93 • Wilmington

On January 11, 2017, Martha J. Czerwin (nee Jankowski) was reunited with the love of her life, Edward P. Czerwin, with whom she shared 44 happy years of marriage, before his death in 1990.

Martha was born August 25, 1923 to the late Anthony and Catherine Jankowski in Niagara Falls, New York. Prior to becoming a full-time mother of 6, she worked for E.I DuPont de Nemours. Martha and Ed made Niagara Falls their home until 1958 when they moved to Wilmington.

Martha was an exceptionally strong willed, passionate woman with immeasurable inner strength. She devoted her life to her family and she never met a stranger. Martha was known for her generosity, always putting the needs of others before her own. She was a woman of strong faith, believing in the power and strength of God's love and the peace that would await her upon her passing. Martha's smile, infectious laugh and her tendency to slip into her Irish dialect will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Martha is survived by her children: Judith Penvenne of Sedona, AZ; Laura LaFarr of West Palm Beach, FL; Rita VanSciver of Rehoboth Beach, DE; Eric Czerwin (Joan) of Lafayette Hill, PA; Paul Czerwin (Joan) of Landenberg, PA and Karen Zebroski (Peter) of Wilmington, DE; her 8 grandchildren: Jennifer, Brian, Jaime (Jason), Jacob (Susan), Jessica (Evan), Courtney (Chris), Corrine (Chris) and Eric(Meghan); 7 great-grandchildren: Morgan, Alisha, Koby, Dezmond, Carson, Riley Grace and Stella (due end of January) and 3 great-great grandchildren: Emma, Riley Mae and Dominick. Also surviving her are sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Edward Gadawski and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Martha was pre-deceased by her husband, Edward; her sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and George Stagg; son-in-law, Gary VanSciver; and grandson, G.S. VanSciver.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Maria Lazar; the staff at Brookdale Senior Living in Hockessin who cared for Martha from 2008 to 2014; the staff at ManorCare Health Services - Pike Creek who cared for Martha most recently; and Heartland Hospice.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin DE 19707, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the .
