AGE: 86 • Falls Church, VA and Fenwick Island, DE

Martin Ignatius Cook Jr. "Mickey," 86, of Falls Church, Virginia and Fenwick Island, Delaware passed away peacefully on March 21, 2016. Mickey has joined his children Mary Catherine Smith and James Mooney in seeing the face of God. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Nancy Elizabeth; his children Martin Ignatius III "Marty" (Brenda), son-in-law Danny Smith, Denise Erwin (Dick), Ann Marie, Terry (Cathy), Kevin (Kathy), Nancy Monaghan (Steve), Brian (Stephanie), Gary (Jennifer) and dear family friend Kathryn Schoellig. Mickey was a loving grandfather to his 25 grandchildren and love grew even deeper with seventeen great-grandchildren as well as two more on the way. Mickey is also survived by his sister Elizabeth Shumate. He is pre-deceased by sisters Aline Cook and Agnes Arnett.

Mickey was born in Washington, D.C. to Martin Ignatius and Elizabeth Cook on June 22, 1929. He grew up and lived his entire life in Falls Church, VA until retiring full time to Fenwick Island, DE. A devout Catholic, Mickey was a lifelong parishioner of St. James Catholic Church in Falls Church, and for the past 25 years he was a parishioner at St. Luke's in Ocean City, MD. Nancy and Mickey met at a CYO dance in 1945 and four years later married on September 10, 1949 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Arlington VA.

Mickey spent his entire career as an Esso/Exxon Service Station manager and owner in the Northern Virginia area until his retirement in 1992, when he moved to "lower, slower Delaware." Mickey was an active member of the St. James Men's Club, Knights of Columbus in Arlington, Lions Club in Northern VA and Fenwick Island, and Alcoholics Anonymous.
