Mary Hansen Williams Obituary
Mary Hansen Williams

AGE: 81 • Glen Farms

Mary Hansen Williams, age 81, passed away very suddenly but peacefully at her home in Glen Farms near Fair Hill, MD on 3/18/17. Mary grew up in Bryn Mawr, PA and graduated from Shipley School there. She then majored in history at the University of Pennsylvania.

She first came to Cecil County as a camper at the former Happy Valley Camp where she fell in love with the horses and later became a counselor and tennis instructor. She met her husband, Harlan C. "Harley" Williams there and they were later married in 1956. Together, they lived their entire married life in Glen Farms mostly on their Chukker Springs horse farm. Mary taught tennis to Glen Farms youngsters for many years and was also a longtime Scout den mother there. She served for over twenty years as an election judge in Cecil County and was very active politically.

The Williams were longtime members of Newark Country Club where Mary helped organize women's golf events and also served a term as club president. As a huge longtime supporter of the Union Hospital auxiliary, she co-chaired several major formal dances for the benefit of the hospital. In 1980, Mary helped organize Union Hospital's "Good as New Shop" where they have sold thousands of donated articles for the benefit of the hospital. She continued to work with this very dedicated and serious group of friends from its very beginning.

Mary was ever so proud of her two sons and six grandchildren. Dr. H. Cooper Williams and his wife, Patricia (Trish), had blessed her with their daughters, Makia and Elska. George Williams and his wife, Sharon, presented her with four more also super grandchildren, Katherine, Sarah and twin sons, Eric and Scott. She will be so ever missed by the entire family.

Cooper and George will always well remember her constant, enthusiastic and caring attendance at their sporting events in school and well beyond.

Memorial services will be held at Elkton Presbyterian Church, 209 E. Main Street, Elkton, MD 21921 on Saturday, April 1st at 11:00AM. Visitation will commence at 10:00AM.

In lieu of flowers, Mary would appreciate contributions to the Arthritis National Research Foundation which is the only charity solely focused on finding a cure for this crippling disease (www.curearthritis.org)
