Mary "Mollie" (Davison) Mellen Obituary
Mary "Mollie" Davison Mellen

AGE: 65 • Yonkers, NY

Mary ("Mollie") Davison Mellen passed away at her home in Yonkers, NY, on May 6. She was 65 years old.

Mollie was born in 1951 in Wilmington and grew up there as the oldest of two children. She was an avid tennis player and served as editor of her high school newspaper. Mollie received her B.A. from Wellesley College and her M.A. from Tufts University. She wrote for her college newspaper and was active in College Republicans and the Newman Center. Mollie retired from teaching to get married and start a family. She lived in Louisville, KY, followed by Boston, MA. Since 1994, she had lived in Westchester County, NY.

Mollie, a devout Catholic, was a long-time parishioner of the Church of St. John the Evangelist in White Plains, NY. She was active in pro-life causes, through which she made many friends. Mollie frequented Hope House and Sterling Community Center in Westchester County and served as an advocate for individuals with mental health disabilities. Mollie also volunteered for the Hudson Valley Alzheimer's Association and most recently for an attorney in Westchester County. Despite having reached retirement age, she was happiest being productive and continued to volunteer up through her final days.

Mollie's children and grandchildren were the focus of her life. She enjoyed visiting and traveling with her family, was a lifelong letter writer to her children, and made frequent calls to her children and grandchildren. Mollie doted on her grandchildren and found great joy in finding small presents to give them.

Mollie is survived by her sister, Anne Davison Baden and her husband Joe Baden of Raleigh, NC; her four children, Beth Mellen Harrison and her spouse Todd Harrison of Rockville, MD, Cathy Mellen Colliver and her husband Todd Colliver of Louisville, Robert Mellen of Louisville, and Christine Mellen of Washington, D.C.; and her four grandchildren, Sarah Harrison, Rebecca Harrison, Paul Colliver, and Joseph Colliver. Her parents, Robert Davison and Mary Agnes Sullivan Davison, predeceased her.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Human Development Services of Westchester in Mamaroneck, NY, or Rosie's Place in Boston.
