Michael Bruce Custer of Dover, 67, died suddenly at his home on Tuesday, June 28, 2016. He was born in Washington, DC on May 28, 1949 and move to Dover at the age of 6 from Easton, MD. The extended Custer family owned the old Custer Bakery on Division Street.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Greatha F. Custer of Dover and his father Hank (Henry) F. Custer of Onancock, VA.

Mike graduated from Dover High School in 1967. After high school he served for 4 years in the United State Navy. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, he returned to Dover and attended Delaware State University, graduating in 1982 with honors with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Natural Resources Management.

Michael began his career in water resources and wastewater management with the State of Delaware, for the Department of Natural Resources & Environmental Control (DNREC) before moving on to Dover-based engineering firm of CABE Associates. Mike switched careers in the late 90s and became a network administrator. He returned to employment for the state of Delaware, retiring from the Department of Technology and Information in June 2014.

Michael enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson, listening to the Rolling Stones and maintaining a salt water fish tank. He was most proud of his two sons and loved watching them play ice hockey and soccer.

He is survived by his two sons, Michael Henry Custer (27) who works in Shanghai, China and Cody Joseph Custer (25) who works in Columbus, Ohio. He is also survived by his ex-wife, Marsha Custer of Dover who remained very close to Mike and was a very helpful in Mike's last several years of life.

Memorial services will be held 7PM, Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford Street, Dover. Friends may call from 5:30 - 7. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to DelVets Club, 720 Pear St, Dover, DE 19904 or the Elks Lodge Post 1903, 200 S Saulsbury Rd, Dover, DE 19904.
