Nancy Marie PIGFORD, 72, of Philadelphia, PA died on Saturday September 19, 2015 in Raleigh, NC of complications from a fall. Nancy was born December 17, 1942 in Wilmington, DE.

Nancy is survived by her loving husband, Alan E. Ankeny; stepchildren, James Ankeny (Mary), Genevieve Hunter (Trey) and Kathryn Allamou (Marouane); her brother, Robert Harrington Pigford (Patsy); her aunt, Martha Davis (nee Pinkston)(Hydray) and many much-loved kin. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Lamar Pigford and Marian Pigford (nee Pinkston), her aunt Mary Smyser (nee Pigford), and uncles Thomas Harrington Pigford, John Turner Pinkston, Jr. and William Lloyd Pinkston.

Nancy attended Ohio Wesleyan College and graduated with honors from the University of Delaware with a Bachelors Degree in English. After college she worked for the federal government, Japan Airlines and the Lippincott Company. Those experiences lead to the United Engineers and Constructors in Philadelphia where she began her career managing corporate communications and advertising for the company. She remained with the company through several corporate name changes and its relocation to Princeton, NJ. She retired from the company in 2008.

Nancy's personal life included volunteering with The Savoy Company on several of its operettas and with Big Sisters of Philadelphia. More recent volunteer activities included being House Manager for The Drama Group and various activities at her church. She was skilled at sewing and made numerous quilts for hospitals, friends and family. She and Alan enjoyed attending concerts and plays together. After they retired they also traveled to Alaska, Scotland, Bermuda, and the Caribbean. Perhaps their favorite trip was a cruise on the Danube River. She was a gentle soul who is missed.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 11am, October 24th at First United Methodist Church of Germantown, 6001 Germantown Ave, Philadelphia PA 19144.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be given in memory of Nancy Pigford to either of the following recipients.

(1) The charitable projects of the United Methodist Women. Checks should be made payable to United Methodist Women, FUMCOG and sent to First United Methodist Church of Germantown, 6001 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia PA 19144. Indicate "Charitable Projects" in the memo line.
