AGE: 95 • Wilmington

Nancy T. Casarino, 95, of Wilmington, DE, passed away October 17th, 2016 peacefully at home, in the presence of her family, following a short illness. Nancy was born June 22nd, 1921 in Montchanin, DE to Michaelangelo and Gaetana (Di Giorgio) Moriello. She was predeceased by her husband of sixty two years, Peter, her son, Michael, and brothers, Alfred, Michael and Nicholas Moriello. She is survived by her son, Stephen (Betsy), her daughter, Suzanne, her grandchildren Corinne Casarino, Matthew Casarino, Evan Steinberger, and Leah Steinberger, and by many nieces and nephews.

Nancy was primarily a homemaker, but worked as a seamstress in her early years. She continued her passion throughout life by making and altering clothes for family and friends. She also worked at Buster Brown Shoes, and briefly had a job as a cafeteria worker at a local high school. Nancy enjoyed working in her vegetable garden, often using her homegrown zucchini and tomatoes in frequent family dinners. The holidays will never be the same without her Italian wedding soup and homemade cheesecake.

Nancy remained independent, driving herself to the Mid-County Senior Center, where she was a member of the Site Council. There, she enjoyed playing cards, Bocce, and participating in the annual fashion and variety shows. She was also a parishioner of St. John the Beloved. In June, family and friends celebrated her 95th birthday with a large party. She will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her.

Friends may visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Sunday, October 23rd from 3:00-5:00PM, and on Monday, October 24th from 9:00-10:00AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington on Monday at 10:30AM. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
