Norbert Laudorn

AGE: 91 • Newark

Norbert Laudorn, age 91, of Newark, DE, went home to the Lord on Sunday, January 10, 2016 with Ed and Birgit Canning by his side.

Mr. Laudorn was born in Luebeck, Germany on April 5, 1924. He was drafted into the German Navy at the age of 18. His ship of 104 men sank a few beaches up from Normandy, with 6 survivors, of which he was one. He was in prisoner of war camps in England and W. He enjoyed his time in the US, and fearing conflict between East and West Germany, emigrated to the US with his wife and three young children in 1957. Mr. Laudorn held a Master's degree in Naval Architecture and had a successful career in that field. His last position was with the Hull Syndicate in NYC where he was Chief Estimator for the company. He also was a member of the Society of Naval Architects.

Mr. Laudorn along with his wife, loved ballroom dancing, teaching his children at a young age. He was a member of Post Cana and the Delaware Saengerbund. He played the piano and while in Germany, semi-pro soccer. His love for the sport was passed through the generations to his son, grandsons, great grandsons and great granddaughter.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Lieselotte (Lielo) and his son, Bernd. He leaves behind to cherish his memory daughter, Birgit Canning (Ed), daughter in law, Christine Laudorn, daughter, Jutta Laudorn-Kelly, grandchildren, Hans Laudorn (Niki), Lloyd Laudorn (Karen), Allison Monge-Calkins (Chad) and Lauren Holzshu (Kurt), and his great grandchildren, Tyler, Carter, Ava and Soren Laudorn.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday morning, January 23, 2016 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 201 S. College Avenue, Newark, DE 19713, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am.

The family is requesting no flowers be sent to the church, however those wishing to make a contribution in Norbert's memory may consider St. Paul's Lutheran Church at the address listed above or Heartland Hospice, 256 Chapman Rd., Ste. 102, Newark, DE 19702.
