Norma (Ganteaume) Mariner Obituary
Norma (Ganteaume) Mariner

On Monday, November 29, 2015, Norma (Mom, Grandmom, Mom mom, Nana) died peacefully while engaged in one of her favorite activities - traveling with family - to visit more family.

Born in New York City, she grew up in a single-parent home during the depression. Norma was one of seven children born to Mabel Grantham Ganteaume and Felix Ganteaume. She spent time in several states over the years. Her four brothers served in the armed forces during WWII before the family settled in Wilmington and where, in 1945, she met and married a handsome sailor, Francis E. Mariner.

Norma was a woman ahead of her time as a working mother in the 40's and 50's. She worked for the Delaware State Tax Office, the DuPont Co., Graver Tank and finally Hercules, Inc. from which she retired in 1991.

Nana enjoyed traveling and also became an accomplished knitter and cross-stitcher, creating beautiful portraits, but her greatest joy was being at family gatherings. She loved tracing her family history from Venezuela and Trinidad, through plantations, and European connections.

Norma was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Francis E. Mariner, her son, Michael W. Mariner and her grandson, Sean Dill. She is survived by daughters Barbara Krieger (Daniel), Nancy Gregor (Martin) and Jeanne Mariner (William Cahall). Her grandchildren include Tabitha Thompson, Christopher Thompson, Jennifer Dill, Melissa Gregor, Michael Mariner, Todd Gregor, Matthew Mariner, Mark Mariner and Julia Mariner. There are twelve great-grandchildren: Lauren Orlando, Jake Orlando, Trey Hayden, Christopher Hayden, Julia Thompson, Brittany Hayden, Krista Thompson, Jake Dill, Noah Mariner, Chiara Mariner, Jaxsen Mariner and Cecilia Thompson.

A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Albans Episcopal Center, 913 Wilson Road, Wilmington, DE 19803 on Saturday, December 5, 2015, at 11:00 am.
