AGE: 75 • Wilmington

Passed away peacefully at Wilmington Hospital on Monday, September 8, 2015.

Born in Wilmington, Norman was the son of the late Norval and Elva (Williams) Briggs. He served his country proudly in the US Army, 82 Airborne, from 1961 to 1964 and then entered the Army Reserves until 1967. For 33 years, he worked for Amtrak, retiring in 2002. He also worked part-time for DelDot for 10 years driving the parts truck. He was one of the founders of the Stanton Newport Little League where he coached and umpired. His hobbies included drag racing and power lifting.

Norman was predeceased by his first wife, Barbara (Cunningham) Briggs in 2011 and his sister, Betty Buckles. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of three years, Karen (Nolan) Briggs; his daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Ken Klapcuniak of Newark; his son and daughter-in-law Norman "Buddy" W. Briggs, Jr. and Rachel Mant of Newark; his stepson, Fred Nolan and his wife, Jean of Prospect Park, PA; his grandson, Tyler Kirkwood; four step grandchildren; Devon, Jillian, Chase and Blake; his step great granddaughter, Gi-gi, Lord; and his sister and brother-in-law, Roberta and Roger Hall of Ocala, FL.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 14th at 12:30 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington where friends and family are invited to visitation after 11:30 AM. Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
