AGE: 83 • Mechanicsville

Patricia W. Harris, age 83, of Mechanicsville, MD and former longtime resident of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 9, 2016.

Born in Newark, DE on September 24, 1932, Mrs. Harris was a daughter of the late William Henry Wilson, Jr. and Bertha Elizabeth (MacLaughlin) Wilson. She made her career as a secretary for the University of Delaware and later Delaware Technical and Community College, along the way completing her associate's degree and retiring after many years of dedicated service.

Mrs. Harris was a former member of Mt. Zion and Kingswood United Methodist Church and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary at Mason Dixon Post 7234. Active in her community, she gave of her time as a volunteer at AI duPont Hospital for Children, the New Castle County Police Department and the Delaware Veterans Home. Mrs. Harris adored completing word puzzles and playing Scrabble in her leisure time. Above all else, she was a devoted and loving mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by her husband, James Griffith Harris, brother, William Wilson, sister, Ethel DiBuo and her beloved canine companion, Patch. She is survived by her children, Ken Harris (Bonnie) of Mechanicsville, MD, Keith Harris (Stephanie) of Newark and Kim Clark of Newark; siblings, Charles Wilson (June) of Zephyrhills, FL, Margaret Atkins (Beaver) of Ocean View, DE and Ruth Ann Boone (Gary) of Newark; 7 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday morning, April 16, 2016, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held 10 am until 11 am. Interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to AI duPont Hospital for Children, 1600 Rockland Rd, Wilmington, DE 19803.
