Paul E. Winkelman, 91 of Newark passed away peacefully on February 28, 2017 at Seasons Hospice.

Mr. Winkelman was born in Wilmington, the son of the late Alethia (Cloud) and Edward Winkelman. He attended Wilmington High School and joined the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II. His division was featured in a cameo appearance in John Wayne's movie "The Fighting SeaBees" in 1944. He attended Zion Lutheran Church when he was young and was a member of Holy Family Church in Newark. Paul enjoyed bowling, golf and watching the Philadelphia sports teams. He was predeceased by his siblings, Earl, Donald, Dorothy and Eleanor.

Paul will be missed by his wife of 58 years, M. Norma (Thompson) Winkelman; his nieces and husbands, Diane and Nelson Murray and Kim and Bill Lovett; his nephews, David Helms and Gary and Steve Winkelman; his sisters-in-law, Dolores Wintrup and her husband, William II of Wilmington and their children, Sandy and Bill III and Sr. Margaret Maureen Thompson, OSF of Towson, MD.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Holy Family Church, Chestnut Hill Road and Gender Drive, Newark at 12:30 PM, where friends may call after 11:30 AM. Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Seasons Hospice, 4755 Ogletown-Stanton Road, Newark, DE 19713. Mealeyfuneralhomes.com
