Lafferty Sr.
Age 82 of Kaolin, PA, passed away Saturday February 13, 2010, at the Christiana Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Marjorie Hartman Lafferty, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage.
Born in Wilmington Delaware, he was a son of the late Frank and Anna Dillon Lafferty. He graduated from St. Patrick School in Kennett Square and attended Kennett High School in Kennett Square and Brown Vocational in Wilmington. He was founder and owner of P.A. Lafferty and Sons' Inc established in 1946. He was a charter member of American Mushroom Institute AMI, member of Knights of Columbus, and attended the Men of Malvern retreat for over 50 years. He was a member of St Patrick Church and proud to be a founding member of St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Mother Church in Avondale, PA where he was a hospitality minister at 7:30 Mass. He was an avid collector of Antique cars and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include in addition to his wife, five devoted children, Philip Jr. and his wife Diane of Kaolin, Thomas and his wife Kathleen of Landenberg, Michael of Philadelphia, Stephen of Hockessin, and Carol and her husband Bruce Doherty of Kaolin, one sister Rita L. Brackin of Wilmington DE, one brother Edward Lafferty Sr. and his wife Ruth of Kaolin, PA., fourteen grandchildren, Lisa, Brent, Amy, Kelleanne, Maggie, Stevie, Erin, Joe, Megan, Chris, Brian, Beth, Caitlin and Jenny, and ten great grandchildren, Nicholas, Jocelyn, Kyle, Lena, Sophia, Keira, Austin, Michael, Liam, and Brianna. He was predeceased by one grandchild, Michael Jr. three sisters, Mary Gregg, Hanna Bristow, and Christine Gillis and two brothers, Frank Lafferty and Joseph Lafferty.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 am, Friday February 19, at St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Mother 8910 Gap Newport Pike, Avondale PA 19311. Family and friends may visit with the family from 6-8 pm, Thursday, February 18, and from 10-11 am, the morning of the service all at the Church. Interment will be in St. Patrick Cemetery Kennett Square.
