Phyllis June Moffitt

AGE: 89 • Hockessin

Phyllis June (Frisk) Moffitt of Hockessin DE, died at age 89 at her Cokesbury Village home on Saturday, October 24th, following a brief illness. She was predeceased by her husband David Andrew Moffitt in December 2010. Phyllis is survived by three adult married children, six grandchildren, and three great-grandsons: Son, Robert Moffitt and wife Patricia (Meyer) of Greenville DE, and granddaughters: Susan (Moffitt) Curtis and husband Ryan of Newmarket NH, with great-grandsons Carson Michael Curtis and Crosby Quincy Curtis; and granddaughter Kristen (Moffitt) Brewer and husband Samuel of Boulder CO, with great-grandson, William Everett Brewer. Daughter, Patricia (Moffitt) Cook and husband Daniel of Santa Fe NM, with granddaughter Sarah Cook in San Francisco. Son, Douglas Moffitt and wife Elizabeth (Sporer) of Greenwich CT, and three grandsons: John Moffitt in New York City; Robert Moffitt at Dartmouth College in NH, and David Moffitt at St. Andrew's School in Middleton DE.

Both Phyllis and Dave Moffitt were raised in northern Minnesota. Phyllis, a native of Hibbing, was graduated in 1948 from St. Luke's School of Nursing in Duluth MN. She first practiced as a surgical nurse at University Hospital in Denver. In 1950, she and David were married in Hibbing. The pair met in their United Methodist Church choir in Duluth in 1947, and sang together throughout their marriage. They were members of Wilmington's Aldersgate United Methodist Church chancel choir for 25 years.

Over the years, the Moffitts enjoyed a lakeside summer cabin in northern Minnesota. Family and friends hold fond memories of daytime water activities and of harmony struck up at log-fired evenings on the beach.

A memorial service will be held at Aldersgate United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at noon. Interment in the church's memory-garden columbarium will be private. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 2313 Concord Pike, Wilmington DE 19803.
