R. Hayden Hurst Obituary
R. Hayden Hurst

AGE: 38 • Arlington, VA

R. Hayden Hurst, 38, of Arlington, VA passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 1, 2015.

Hayden was born on September 19, 1976 in Wilmington, DE. He was a 1994 graduate of Salesianum High School, a 1998 graduate of Georgetown University and attended graduate school at the University of Delaware. Hayden worked for ManTech International/CTTSO, TSWG/WinTec Arrowmaker, and JIL and was extremely proud of his work supporting DOD counter-terrorism operations. He was working in the Pentagon on the day of the 9/11 attacks. In college, Hayden participated in Model UN and quiz bowl and continued volunteering with them after graduation. He loved competing with his team in bar trivia (compiling an excellent record) and was a member of the Hoya Hoop Club. He tried his hand at ballroom dance, was an excellent baker and was the Captain for Meat Week in the DC area. Hayden was an avid volunteer, particularly at the National Science Bowl each year. His passion was travel—international travel. However, his focus recently changed to achieving his goal of visiting all 50 states.

He is survived by his parents, Glenn and Fran Hurst; his sister, Caroline Stockton; and his brother, Doyle Hurst. Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Arlington, VA on September 12 at 1 PM. A reception will immediately follow at the Ft. Myer Officer's Club at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall.

Instead of flowers, the family asks for donations to your local library in Hayden's name, as Hayden was an avid reader.
