Richard H. Poultney

AGE: 79 • Dover

Richard H. Poultney, known fondly as "Dickie," age 79, of Dover, DE, passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by his family on Sunday, September 20, 2015.

A native Delawarean, Dickie was born in Wilmington on August 25, 1936, and was a son of the late Richard C. Poultney and Margaret (Wilson) Poultney. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and greatly enjoyed the time he spent serving in the military. After his honorable discharge, Dickie began his career as a sales representative with the Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Wilmington where he worked until his retirement after 37 years of dedicated employment.

He had a genuine appreciation for music and spent many happy hours playing guitar alongside his longtime friend, Jim Bowe. An avid nature lover, Dickie adored spending time outside and enjoyed fishing. He was happiest in the company of his beloved family, especially his grandchildren, whom he cherished.

In addition to his parents, Dickie was preceded in death by his brother, James Poultney. He is survived by his wife, Sara Letts Poultney; daughter, Tara E. Simeone (Paul) of Newark, DE; brother, Norman Poultney (Sally) of Millsboro, DE; sister in law, Doris Poultney of Middletown; and grandchildren, Brandon and Rachael Simeone.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday morning, September 26, 2015, at the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where a visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11 am. Interment will follow in the adjoining memorial park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, 256 Chapman Rd., Ste. 102, Newark, DE 19702.
