Richard "Dick" L. Stafford

AGE: 74 • Wilmington

Richard Stafford, 74, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, with his loving family by his side.

Dick was born in Wilmington, DE, son of the late Francis and Margaret (Johnson) Stafford. He was a 1960 graduate of Conrad High School and served honorably in the US Army. Dick went on to enjoy a 35-year career with Delmarva Power. He began working as a lineman and eventually became a manager in the gas construction department, retiring in 1998.

Dick enjoyed boating and spending time at the beach. He was a corvette enthusiast, loved riding his Harley Davidson and enjoyed partaking in "Happy Hour" and listening to classic rock. He was a member of the local Pulaski Legion, Defiance Club and the American Legion and VFW Posts in southern Delaware.

Dick is survived by his children, Susan Angeline (Duke) and Sheila Stafford; his grandsons, Alexander and Alfred Paul Angeline; his longtime girlfriend, Karen Francks; his brother, Lee Stafford (Carol); his dog and loyal companion, Gabe; and many lifelong friends he made while working at Delmarva Power.

A funeral service will be held at 2:30pm on Friday, March 31st, 2017 at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808, where family and friends may visit beginning at 1:00pm. Interment will follow in St. James Episcopal Church Cemetery in Newport.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the ALS Association, 321 Norristown Road, Suite 260, Ambler, PA 19002.
