Richard P. Cresto Jr. Obituary
Richard P. Cresto, Jr.

AGE: 1978 - 2016 • Wilmington

On September 5th, Richard P. Cresto, Jr., son of Richard and Cathy Cresto, passed away at the age of 39 at the Mary Campbell Center, where he was a resident for the past 19 years.

As an infant, Richie was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, and in spite of his many health issues, he was a very lucky boy to be blessed with such loving and devoted parents, Richie & Cathy, who together, as a team, attended to his every need. Their lives revolved totally around the needs of their son. When they physically could no longer care for him in their home, he was fortunate to be accepted into the Mary Campbell Center where he enjoyed the companionship and activities with the other residents. His parents continued their hands-on care with daily visits and phone calls. In spite of his disability, Richie was best known for his beautiful smile, and it was easy to make him laugh. He was a happy young man who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life -- spending time with mom & dad, evening "walks", and especially the lifelong friends he was blessed with, both residents and staff, on "EZ Street" at Mary Campbell. Richie also touched the hearts of so many doctors and nurses at Christiana Hospital 3D who cared for him during his numerous visits, especially the last two years and especially Dr. Sajid Noor. His parents will remain forever grateful for the love and compassion given to their son. Although Richie was not able to verbally communicate, he knew how loved and adored he was by his mom and dad which most surely explains him surpassing his life expectancy of someone with his disability. Richie and Cathy dedicated their lives totally to ensure Richie lived his life to the fullest as he was able to do. He was truly blessed.

In addition to his parents, Richie is survived by his maternal grandmother, Brutetta Jones of Smyrna, DE; his uncles, Joe and John Cresto (Terri) and Howard Jones; his aunt, Mary Boswell (Joseph); and "special aunt and uncle" Linda and Tony Bariglo.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, September 10th at Mealey Funeral Home at 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE. 19808 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. where services will begin at 1 p.m. Interment will be private.

In place of flowers, may we suggest a donation in Richie's memory to the Mary Campbell Center, 4641 Weldin Road, Wilmington, DE. 19803. Online condolences may be made at MealeyFu neralHomes.com (302) 652-5913
