Richard Thomas "Tom" Eger passed away on May 8, 2017, at the age of 77. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1939, to Edmond and Miriam Eger.

He is predeceased by his daughter, Margaret, and sisters, Conni and Suzanne.

He is survived by his daughter, Lisa (Stanley) Wielosik of Brookhaven, PA, and David of Burlingame, CA, and his six grandchildren: Zacchaeus, Kris, Caitlyn, Stanley Jr., Joshua, and Stephanie. He is also survived by his siblings Ted, Larry, Julie, Laurie and Cathy. He is also survived by his former wife, Kathleen, and close friend and companion, Jane Hiddleson.

Richard graduated from Purdue University in 1962 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for 4 years as a research operations engineer at NASA's Lewis Research Center in Cleveland, OH, then returned to school at the University of Michigan, receiving his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1967.

He worked briefly as a research scientist at Union Carbide's Parma Technical Center in Parma, OH, before joining the DuPont Co. in 1969, moving to Madison, TN, with his new bride to work at the Spunbondeds Laboratory. He was transferred to the Seaford, DE, plant in 1977, where he researched to improve nylon spinning processes. In his career at DuPont, he advanced to the position of Research Associate and was the holder of 2 patents assigned to DuPont.

Richard had a long and abiding interest in space travel and aviation history, accumulating massive amounts of research on the ME-262, for which he was viewed as an expert. He was a 50 plus year member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and a member of the National Air and Space Society of the National Air and Space Museum.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 15, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home, 700 West Street, Laurel, Delaware 19956. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Pastor Joel Beiler will officiate. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery Seaford.
