Rita Frances Peco-Gazzillo Obituary
Rita Frances Peco-Gazzillo

AGE: 80 • Wilmington

Rita Frances Peco-Gazzillo, age 80, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully at home on October 15, 2015.

Rita was born and raised in the Penny Hill area of Wilmington to her parents Joseph and Frances Peco. She was a proud alumna of Ursuline Academy and Saint Francis Nursing School where she met many lifelong friends. As a young nurse, Rita met the love of her life Frank Gazzillo. The pair was married in May 1956 at the Hotel DuPont in Wilmington. During their 60 year marriage, Rita and Frank shared a bond that was unbreakable. Their bond was so strong that God called Rita home to be with Frank just weeks after his passing.

In life Rita was generous, kind, and gentle. She was filled with faith and was a devout Catholic and regularly attended daily Mass. Rita enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling with her husband, and volunteering at her lifelong parish St. Helena's Roman Catholic Church. As a member of St. Helena's, Rita served her parish in many ways including serving on parish council, finance council, and Lazarus committee. She was also a Eucharistic Minister to the sick, volunteered counting the weekly collections, and managed the finances for the annual parish carnival for many years. Together with her husband, she successfully operated her family's business Peco's Liquors for over 50 years.

In addition to her parents, Rita is preceded in death by her loving husband Francis Gazzillo and her beloved son Joseph. Rita is survived by her sister Mary Ann Vari; daughter Francine (Christopher) Mulvihill; son David (Jeanne Sievers); daughter-in-law Karen (Tupper) Gazzillo; and grandchildren Eric Gazzillo, Edward (Jacqueline Geserick) Mulvihill, Kristen Gazzillo, Michael Mulvihill, Kathryn Gazzillo, Jonathan Gazzillo and Jason Gazzillo. Rita is also survived by her devoted staff, many loving nieces, nephews and friends with whom she shared a special bond.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, October 23, 2015 at 12:00 noon at St. Helena's Catholic Church, 602 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, DE 19809 where friends and family may call from 10:30 am-12 noon. Interment will follow in St. Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Helena's Roman Catholic Church, Down Syndrome Association of Delaware, PO Box 747, Middletown, DE 19709 and Ursuline Academy, 1106 Pennsylvania Avenue, Wilmington, DE 19806.
