Robert "Bob" Francis Cichocki

Age 74, of Wilmington, DE, passed away May 17, 2017.

Bob was born April 3, 1943 in Wilmington, DE. He graduated from St. Elizabeth High School and continued on to valiantly serve in the United States Air Force and Air Force Reserves during the Vietnam War. Bob received many medals for his military service, most notably the Purple Heart. He later obtained a Masters Degree in Human Services from Lincoln University.

Bob spent a good portion of his life developing programs that benefited the disabled. He was recognized by President Clinton who awarded him the Medal of Freedom for establishing the Disability Rights Movement and by Delaware's Governor Carper for his pioneering work in this field. Bob also enjoyed learning languages and was very passionate about teaching English to his students around the world.

Preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Elsie Cichocki; Bob is survived by his son, Robert "Bobby" Francis Cichocki; two grandchildren, Chase and Brittany; brother, Joseph Cichocki (Carol); sister, Joanne DeRose (nee Cichocki); and many family and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am, Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 15 Gender Road, Newark, DE 19713.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Disabled American Veterans (www.dav.org).
