Robert H. English III Obituary
Robert H. English, III

AGE: 65 • Smyrna

Robert H. English, III, age 65, of Smyrna, Delaware, went to be with the Lord on June 24, 2016. Bob was born in Charleston, West Virginia on July 17, 1950 and grew up in South Charleston. In 1976 he moved to Newark, Delaware and later to Smyrna.

A graduate of Virginia Tech, Bob received degrees in accounting and horticulture. He worked for Wilmington Trust Company for 23 years before retiring in 2005. Bob's gift and passion was landscaping. He spent many hours designing and installing beautiful gardens for friends, family and his church.

From his childhood at First Presbyterian Church in South Charleston, Bob was devoted to the Lord and to the church. For the last 26 years he was an active member of Grace Church Dover, where he was a deacon. Bob loved his church family and was always ready and eager to serve, whether on a budget or planning committee, running the sound system or helping with Vacation Bible School.

Over the years Bob enjoyed biking, tennis, basketball and golf. A highlight of his teenage years was playing clarinet in the junior high and high school bands. He enjoyed many vacations to his favorite destinations of Myrtle Beach and Disney World.

Bob was a gentle, generous, giving person, who cared for others and never met a stranger. He lived with humility and grace. He was known for his meticulous attention to detail in anything he attempted, usually adding his own special touches. His sense of humor always brought a laugh.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Vivian Snider English and Robert H. English, Jr. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Terri; by his son Nathan Hackney, daughter-in-law Stacey, and grandson Jake of Newark; and by his sister Marian English of Richmond, Virginia.

The family wishes to thank those who have quietly cared for Bob in his last days, including The Delaware Hospice Center in Milford and caregivers from Nurse Next Door.

Visitation will be held 9:30-11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2016, with a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 a.m at Grace Church, 350 McKee Road, Dover, Delaware. A reception will follow at the church. Interment will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, New Freeport, PA.
