AGE: 87 • Wilmington

Robert (Bob) Louie Sr. of Wilmington, passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2016, in Wilmington. He was 87.

Bob was born April 13, 1929 in Akron, Ohio to the late John and Ong Shee Louie. Raised in Easton, Md, he received a degree from American University in Washington, D.C. He was a U.S. Army Veteran who proudly served during the Korean War. Bob was well known in Dover where he owned and operated the China Gardens Restaurants for over 20 years until 1982 with three locations; Bay Road across from Dover Air Force Base, the Blue Hen Mall and on DuPont Highway across from Rodney Village. After retiring from the restaurant business he spent time as a salesperson for Air Base Carpet Mart. Bob lived with his partner Jane. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren and looked forward to eating Chinese buffet every Tuesday with his close friend Joe.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary in 1978. He is survived by his companion of 29 years, Jane Murray; his three sons… Robert Louie, Jr. and his wife, Mary of Middletown, DE, John Scott Louie and his wife Kiki of Doha, Qatar, and Jerome David Louie of Bear, DE; three brothers, Henry, James and Thomas Louie; three sisters, Cherry Gong, Pauline Khu, and Helen Foy. Also surviving are grandchildren: Falyn, Brittany, Marina, John Steven, and Kane and his wife Jessica. Great grandchildren include Kingston, Maxton, Nicholas, Gordon, Kalani, and Arion.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, November 26, at Torbert Funeral Chapel, South 1145 E. Lebanon Rd., Dover, DE 19901. Visitation will be from 11 AM until service time. Interment will be at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Dover.
